Like most avid readers, I started attempting to write my own stories after I’d read enough books to stimulate my creative mind.
I was never all that successful because I would either get bored with one story, or simply lose direction after the first 25 chapters. At one point I had 50+ stories saved up on our old Compaq computer (all of which are lost now) and notebooks filled with idle writing during high school classes as well as other more serious undertakings.
As I got older, other interests pushed writing and reading aside for a few years. I would still read periodically and if I ever got a good idea for a story, I would stop writing after a few chapters. It didn’t help that my numerous attempts never went anywhere and I just didn’t know how to write a short story, even if I had wanted to start small.
Now I’m rediscovering my love for reading and new ideas are starting to sprout in my head. I never showed anyone my stories when I was younger because I had no confidence in them. And it’s not that I think any stories I write now is neessarily much better but I no longer care so much about what people might think of them. Besides, haven’t they always said feedback is one of the best ways to learn?
So, here goes my experiment. I will try to write several times a week and post what I’ve written for you all (3 of you or something) to read. Hopefully at least one of you like it and any constructive criticisms you have is much appreciated. I may make changes along the way because at this stage, I have an idea of what the story is, but not the specifics. If I change anything that contradicts or adds to a previous post, I will note it and add it into the previous posts as well.
Hope you guys enjoy!
