You may have been linked by a friend or you may have just stumbled across this little place in the faroff corner of the vast space that is “the internet.” However way you got here, you probably have a love for fantasy novels.
Some people might be put off by the name of the blog, particularly the word “romanticist”. I think the problem with the word “romance” is it conjures up half-naked wenches in ecstacy with a darkly handsome man’s head buried in her neck, aka Harlequin books. Not that there’s anything wrong with those books or enjoying reading them, but the fact is, it is a predominantly female genre. I read them sometimse (although, not particularly the wench types) but really what I’m interested in talking about here are the fantasy novels that have strong elements of romance.
I’ll admit it (quite shamelessly so), I’m a sucker for love stories and strong heroines. And when i sit down with a good book, I often won’t put it down for hours and will try to finish the book in two days even while I wish I could drag it out a little longer. Most of the books I mention here will feature narration by the heroine or the story will be told mostly from her point of view. I can’t help it, I have a hard time picking up books that are told entirely in the male perspective. Maybe it’s because when I am reading, I imagine that I’m the protagonist, and–being a woman–it’s hard to relate to a male? Or maybe books that are told from the perspective of the female tend to be written by women and tend to feature a strong love story? I don’t know.
I’m not a particularly romantic person in everyday life, maybe I’m not comfortable enough expressing love and receiving romantic gestures, but I generally tend to avoid it in my own life. But the idea of romance and a heartwrenching love story appeals to me greatly. So you could say I live romance vicariously through books and stories. (Hence the title of the blog, go figure!)
I intend to treat this as a platform to share my thoughts about my latest reads, a way to track books I’ve read, and hopefully a resource for anyone out there looking for the same books that I’m looking for.
I hope that in these pages, you the visitor will be able to find a kindred spirit, or at least thoughts that make you say, “That’s exactly what I thought when I read that!” Whether you agree with my views or not, I find it interesting to read about what other people think about the spunky heroines in many of the bookst hat I love.
Make sure you check out the authors’ links I’ve posted on the right side below, they’re all extremely talented writers whose works I look forward to reading in the future.
I’ve added a new link on the top “Work in progress” which is going to be a place where I’ll post my own writing. Feel free to check that out.
